"I have walked by and seen this location for years, heard the music but never been in." Photographer, Jeff Martin
But on this particular day while walking with client Jasmina Price who is opening a new business this Saturday the 25th with a grand opening party at 12:30pm in Fells Point, Baltimore, MD with her father professional boxer David Sewell (Sweet Science Boxing and Fitness) I did. We stopped in and found a beautiful welcoming soul in the doorway who graciously invited us in, it was the artist himself Loring Cornish.
A self taught artist who was drawn to mosaics by accident while repairing a damaged floor in a house he was renting. And as he says "one thing led to another" and soon floors and walls were covered with an assortment of items found everywhere he went.
Once inside said we looked in all three levels of his studio at the work displayed which ranged from mosaics, to mixed media, leather, furniture plus more at his 1622 Thames Street location. We had been talking about finding meaningful art work for the walls in her boxing gym days before. As we admired his use of materials to create many of the pieces on display we ran into the perfect art piece for their gym...
After finding the historic Muhammad Ali vs Sonny Liston piece Jasmina new it was perfect, and took it home on the spot. "This will make a perfect gift for my Dad."
To learn more about Loring Cornish visit his web site www.loringcornish.com or watch this YouTube video and what US Congressman Elijah Cummings and others noted in this video of his work:
"In each others shoes"
And visit Jasmina and Dave at Sweet Science Boxing and Fitness at 913 S Ann Street, and to see this newly purchased art!
