Wow! 🤯❤️ #Repost @tate ・・・ 'I operate very often in these ‘frozen moments’ where there’s been lots of action but this is a sort of quiet corner of that… So it’s not the explosion, it’s more the contemplation, you know, the quiet contemplation of these things in the air' - Cornelia Parker Cornelia Parker's 'Cold Dark Matter: An Exploded View' is the scattered contents of a garden shed, which was exploded by the British Army at her request. The bits of shed and dispersed objects, twisted and blackened from the force of the blast, were carefully gathered together after the explosion. Some objects were never found – either blown far away and missed or totally destroyed. The surviving pieces are suspended in the air as if held mid-flight. In their new life they are transformed and re-energised. Rather than provoking horror, the pieces can be contemplated. This month the work was installed at @mca_australia in a major exhibition of the artist’s work. 🌏

As part of the BMA's 2020 Vision initiative, the museum will also showcase at least 20 exhibitions featuring work from a diverse range of women, including Elizabeth Catlett. "The goal for this effort is to rebalance the scales and to acknowledge the ways in which women’s contributions still do not receive the scholarly examination, dialogue, and public acclaim that they deserve,” said Christopher Bedford, the museum's director. 'The art of Conversation' by René Magritte belongs to the late period of the artist’s career which started after the World War II. This painting shows a landscape that contains bushes, a road and a distant mountain. But it is almost eclipsed by an overwhelming sky covered in grey clouds among which a shocking and unexpected couple of men in a black coat and a bowling hat floating in the right upper-middle section of the image. These are, in fact, the elements of the picture that the viewer would probably notice first, not only because of their strange situation in the space but also because of the dark colour of the suit that contrasts the soft grey tone of the clouds and the foggy blue of the mountains bellow the scene. The scene is painted in a realistic style and with the illusion of three-dimensionality. However, nothing seems to be real. The two tiny men appear in the right upper section of the scene as if they had been lifted from the road. They are also perfectly situated in the diagonal line that crosses the square from the lower left corner to the upper right corner. If we divide the painting in drawing a cross and therefore consider the lower and the upper parts separately, we could consider them as constituting two different and independent paintings. However, once joined they form an strange but well balanced image.
